Three mass graves with 1,000 corpses found in Iraq:

Iraqi officials have found three mass graves containing the bodies of about 1,000 people thought to have been executed by US soldiers during their occupation of the country.

The graves were uncovered in Iraq’s western province of al-Anbar. The remains are believed to be from victims killed by US forces during 2004 and 2005 in the city of Fallujah, located roughly 69 kilometers (43 miles) west of Baghdad.

The Demerara rebellion of 1823 was an uprising involving more than 10,000 slaves that took place in the former Crown colony of Demerara-Essequibo (now part of Guyana).

The rebellion resulted in the deaths of many slaves; estimates of the toll range from 100 to 250. The rebellion, and especially the death, on death row, of a British parson, had a strong impact on Britain, and on the abolitionists’ movement, to emancipate slaves after enactment of the Slave Trade Act 1807 banned the slave trade. Jack Gladstone, leader of one of the slave revolts, after his deportation helped bring attention to the plight of sugar plantation slaves, accelerating the abolition of slavery. What a load of bollocks from ponies-and-politics there. People who romanticise war are the ones that should pipe the fuck down, because they’re exactly the kind of people who, with their bullshit about misplaced heroism, encourage young impressionable men and women to lose the only life they’ll ever have in the name of absolutely nothing. Wars aren’t in the name of freedom or for the defence of anybody. How many times does this shit need to be said? They’re so governments and corporations can get rich off the exploitation of naive young soldiers and defenceless civilians of already poverty stricken countries. See if it was really about freedom and liberation, soldiers would be fighting for people who actually need help, like for the women in brutally opressive religious countries like Saudi Arabia, or the girls in Africa who are genitally mutilated and married off at an incredibly young age, or for the rights of gay people in Iran who are hung on street corners, or for the Eastern European women who are trafficked into a life of rape and slavery, or for the handicapped, destitute veterans of America who don’t have a home. But seeing as they’re about making the lives of human beings better and don’t offer any financial gain, governments are not interested in doing anything about it. If you mention the word oil or diamonds however, their ears prick up and suddenly the country in question will need ‘liberating’. Yes, liberating of its mineral wealth.

It actually amazes me that the brainwashing about war is so complete now that people who are anti-war are the bad guys, when we’re the only ones saying, hey you do realise that you don’t have to go to a place thousands of miles from your home where you will see things so terrible that you won’t ever be able to forget them, and your mind will be forced to endure such unnatural conditions that you will never ever be the same person you were before you went. Or your body will be maimed and mutilated for the rest of your life, and finding work will be next to impossible, and the government will not care because you’ve already served your purpose to them and now you’re just a glaring reminder to others of how destructive war actually is, so you’ll be conveniently forgotten about, but they will give you a piece of metal that you can wear on your chest and you’ll be branded a ‘hero’ and I’m sure that will help feed you and your kids. Or you won’t make it home at all, and your heartbroken family will have lost their child, but don’t worry because they’ll see a meaningless piece of cloth draped over the coffin that contains your lifeless body, so I’m sure that will be a huge consolation to them. The vile politians who declare war will never lose their children to it by the way, and the worthless royalty who advocate it as noble will never be on the frontline.

You don’t owe anything to your governments, you don’t owe anything to the patch of Earth you were randomly born on. You owe it to the rest of humanity not to play any part in such the odious, disgusting lie that is war.

Deep sea 'gold rush' moves closer:

The United Nations has published its first plan for managing the extraction of so-called “nodules” - small mineral-rich rocks - from the seabed.

A technical study was carried out by the UN’s International Seabed Authority - the body overseeing deep sea mining.

It says companies could apply for licences from as soon as 2016.

The idea of exploiting the gold, copper, manganese, cobalt and other metals of the ocean floor has been considered for decades but only recently became feasible with high commodity prices and new technology.

Conservation experts have long warned that mining the seabed will be highly destructive and could have disastrous long-term consequences for marine life.

The ISA study itself recognizes that mining will cause “inevitable environmental damage”.

But the report comes amid what a spokesman describes as “an unprecedented surge” of interest from state-owned and private mining companies.

“It appears that nothing has been learned during our short and devastating history on our ocean planet. Having destroyed or irrevocably changed so much of the Earth’s land environment, our rapaciousness is now having measurable effects on the oceans through overfishing, acidification, refuse, oil spills, reef destruction etc. Mining will be one more nail in the coffin.”

Not every person will be responsible for their own safety. You call those people cowards, but they’re still americans who deserve protection.(thats my opinion) Texation without representation is theft but that’s just an opinion difference between us. By tyranny I mean the government turning Nazi on us, which unfortunately is what a lot of what Obama says/ does reminds me of. I just don’t think he can take over the whole country by the end of his term, and he will get voted out when the time comes.

Obama can’t get ‘voted out’, he was elected for his 2nd term and will serve it in full unless he gets impeached, or the Constitution is amended to allow the president to serve more than 2 terms. But do you really think Obama is the only person in government we need to be afraid of? What about the millions of bureaucrats who carry out “his” edicts? They’re “just following orders” though, right? Nothing to be afraid of.

I just wanted to thank you for helping me learn about a wide range of issues and for introducing me to different ideologies. I'm sure I never would have learned about voluntary association or anti-statism if not for you and a few other people on Tumblr. I actually got a few books on voluntaryism, and from what I've read so far, it really aligns with my views. I'm glad I was lucky enough to have my eyes opened. Thank you, seriously.

The “pack up and go home?” Was just a saying. You my friend took that way to literally. All I was getting at was we should have a standing army at all times, maybe not deployed, but always one ready. Citzens need guns because the government has guns. Realistically do I think the government plans tyranny? No, but we should always be prepared. It’s important for the people to he armed.
Now earlier in one of my posts I said it’s okay to disagree with a specific was (such as the perpetual “war on terror”) but to discredit our entire military over it? Ridiculous.

If every individual person is responsible for their own defense (or that of their family or whatever), why do we need a standing army?

And have you seen any headlines lately? The government is most certainly involved in all sorts of tyranny. And that’s leaving aside the fact that the State cannot exist without tyranny, as taxation=theft.

At the moment there is no one trying to invade us, but does that mean our military should just pack up and go home? No! They keep training and working in case something does come up. I’ve taken personal defense classes, have a blackbelt, and am learning gun safety before I buy my own gun. I take my person safety into my own hands because there isn’t always a cop or military personnel walking around with me. I’m one person, I don’t have the ability to protect everyone, but I support the people that do.

I’m really confused here… So there’s nobody trying to invade us, but that doesn’t mean our military can go home? So where do you stand on the 150+ military bases/1.5 million+ deployed US troops around the world? They should just stay where they are, just in case, despite costing US taxpayers millions, and being away from their families/homes?

If everyone was responsible like you, we wouldn’t need a standing army, as every citizen would belong to the de facto citizen militia, and not a standing army, which is a tool of the government/establishment.

According to Penelope Trunk, however, that number should be closer to 3.24 million.
